Welcome to our blog and thank you for visiting us! We hope this is your first of many visits to our site as we take you on a journey through the process of building a custom home.

Today’s home design has changed over the last few years as the economy has shifted and people’s priorities have changed. Today, more so than ever, homeowners are focusing on designing efficient, effective space as opposed to focusing on “how many square feet can I get?”—in other words, a focus on quality vs. quantity. And along with that focus comes a real shift toward outdoor living, from choosing the neighborhood you live in to designing the sight lines from your home to dedicated outdoor spaces.

Through the Outdoor Living Show Home project, a custom home being built for homeowners in Rockwood Falls Estates and Meadows, we want to help you experience what it’s like designing and building your own custom home. We plan to lay out the process for you and give you a sneak peak at the decisions required and the steps necessary to take a homeowner’s dream from concept to completion.

We will provide insightful articles about the latest in home design in addition to the latest in decorating and interior design. For the construction-minded, we will chronicle the various steps of the construction process. And for the not-faint-of-heart, we plan to take you inside the heads of the homeowners as they take their dream journey—from selecting the community where they wanted to live and designing their home to the various decisions and selections to be made throughout the construction process and moving in.

We plan to do all of this in “real time,” as the house is being built. You’ll see pictures of the progress along the way, get to meet some of the vendors and craftsmen who take a two-dimensional set of plans and make a home a living, breathing structure, and we might even let you help the homeowners make a product selection or decorating decision!

If you have an interest at all in what it takes to build your dream home, this is the place for you; there will be a little something for everyone. And when it is all done and the house is complete, we plan to open it up to you to come see the final product. A home tour is targeted for June of 2011, and not only will you get to see the finished product after following along here, you will get to help a well-known Kansas City charity—the Will To Succeed Foundation.
