New Research Reveals Green Homes Sell for More
There was a time in which many people outside of the building industry didn’t quite understand the importance or the value of building green. However, in recent years the public’s awareness and understanding of green building features has increased tremendously, leading home buyers to be willing to pay more for a green home.
As reported by Eco Home Magazine, research conducted in several markets across the U.S. has revealed homes certified by third parties like LEED for Homes, Energy Star, and Earth Advantage have yielded higher profits than homes that are not certified.
For example, research conducted in the Portland, Oregon area by the Earth Advantage Institute revealed that green-certified homes sold for as much as 30% more on average than those not certified. Additionally, newly constructed green-certified homes sold for about 8% more than new homes that were not certified.
